Guest Blog Post by Fall CUE Featured Speakers Adam Juarez and Katherine Goyette
We are honored and excited to return to FallCUE, where we tied the knot two years ago. No, for real, we got married on stage, officiated by Jon Corippo himself! CUE is all about the people, and it was fitting to be surrounded by our PLN.
As we write in our upcoming book The Complete EdTech Coach: An Organic Approach to Supporting Digital Learning, it has been a thrill to hear people say, “You don’t know me but I was at your wedding!” What we love about CUE is the welcoming atmosphere, the networking opportunities, the inclusivity.
This year, we will be joining Fall CUE from our home in Sanger, California, surrounded by our four kids, two dogs, and a cat. Our personal and professional lives complement each other. Our 17-year-old son edits videos for us, and our elementary school-aged daughters provide us with student perspective and feedback on various apps and strategies that we share with teachers.
In our spare time: Adam is a rabid supporter of Fresno State football and Manchester United. Katherine loves to rewatch Disney feature films chronologically and write poetry. These personal interests manage to naturally become infused into our passion for education.
More than ever before, the lines are blurred between personal and professional life. For many of us, home and office have become one and the same. Distance/hybrid learning has thrown a wrench into educators’ normal routines. We read a lot about work-life balance, but if you truly love what you do, the goal is a work-life fusion. Our personal interests and friendships are not abandoned when we are work, and we continue to think about how to improve a lesson or better reach a student when we return to our home life. This is not something to be ashamed of, embrace it. If you are reading this, you are one of these people. At Fall CUE, we will be exploring the work-life fusion concept in greater depth.
As educators, we have greatly benefited from learning at CUE events and look forward to giving back. Join us at our EdTech Coaching session to explore an organic approach to supporting educators, feed your soul at our work-life fusion session, or visit with us during meet the authors. We look forward to connecting with you!
