About Ramsey Mussallam

Ramsey Musallam is a secondary science instructor at Sonoma Academy in Santa Rosa, California. Ramsey has also has served as an adjunct professor of education at the University of San Francisco and Touro University in the San Francisco Bay Area. Prior to his role as a science instructor at Sonoma Academy, Ramsey served as a Science Instructor and Director of Inquiry and Innovation at Sacred Heart Cathedral in downtown San Francisco for 15 years. In addition his role as a science teacher, Ramsey runs invention workshops for elementary and middle school students in the greater Bay Area.

Ramsey delivers keynotes, webinars and facilitates workshops for teachers nationally and internationally with a focus on using technology as a strategic classroom partner in designing learning environments grounded in inquiry fueled by student curiosity. Additionally, Ramsey is the host of the Infinite Thinking Machine, an internet TV show dedicated to sharing innovative ideas for teachers and students. Ramsey’s TED Talk “3 Rules to Spark Learning” is widely popular with classroom teachers, and was the lead talk on TEDs first ever PBS TV premiere, “TED Talks Education.”

Upon graduating from the University of California Davis with a BS in Molecular and Cellular Biology, Ramsey went on to obtain a MA and Ed.D in Education from the University of San Francisco. Since graduating, Ramsey’s research interests have shifted from using Multimedia to manage student Cognitive Load, to a focus on harnessing Multimedia as a tool in cultivating student curiosity, inquiry and motivation.

Apple’s  Pages, Numbers, Keynote, and iMovie have long been considered powerful tools for the classroom but applying all of that potential can be a real challenge.

This course will not only help you amplify your skills with these apps more but also develop a whole quiver of new ways to amplify your teaching.

Engage learners with multimedia-rich “SuperDocs” in Pages and have them export their learning as multitouch iBooks. Discover a minimum of 20 ways to use Keynote for everything but presentations. Get organized with Numbers and overhaul student-created videos with professional techniques.

About Andy Losik

Andy Losik has been teaching for 24 years in a variety of school settings. For the last two decades, he has specialized in technology at the elementary level in Hamilton, Michigan. In 2016 Andy co-founded a new STEM program that will serve learners in the district’s four elementary schools.

A former member of the MACUL Board of Directors, the 2009 Michigan Technology Teacher of the Year is an Apple Distinguished Educator and Google for Education Certified Innovator who serves as a “helpful guy” in his school district and across the country for private, public, and charter schools looking to make a difference with technology in the classroom. He has also provided insight for companies like Disney’s Kerpoof Studios, Sony, and most recently joined a special team at Discovery Education that consults and promote its many corporate partner educational initiatives.

In 2015 Andy completed Stay In the Game: Jared Veldheer’s Journey To the NFL, a biography detailing the principles the Arizona Cardinals’ team captain and left tackle has used to achieve tremendous success.

First and foremost Andy is a husband and dad who loves his family, fishing, and football as much as he loves the techie stuff.

Class Description

What is the relationship between physical space, technology, and learning? What kinds of spaces can leverage technology and support the kinds of learning we want to happen? In this Master Class, Bill Selak and Ilsa Dohmen from Hillbrook School will share how to create dynamic learning spaces where teachers and students can collaborate, learn together, and work together. You will see examples from Hillbrook’s iLab, a redesign of their computer lab into a customizable space that students had a choice and voice in designing.

Leave with ideas on how you can create dynamic learning spaces with students to foster communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. Join us to learn how to design agile learning spaces for your students and your school.

About Bill Selak & Ilsa Dohmen

Bill Selak is the Director of Technology at Hillbrook School in Los Gatos, California. He believes that mobile devices compel you to individualize, and is curious how teaching and learning shapes a classroom. He is an Apple Distinguished Educator, ISTE Certified Educator,Google Certified Innovator, and ISTE Kay L. Bitter Vision Award recipient. Bill is currently obsessed with sharing his professional learning on Instagram Stories.

Ilsa Dohmen is the Director of Hillbrook School’s Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) and school-based research designer, who bridges the research/practice gap. Prior to Hillbrook, she worked as a classroom researcher at Stanford, designing and conducting technology- and game-based interventions in 2nd-8th grade math and science classrooms to analyze how learning was impacted by small changes to lesson design. Ilsa joined Hillbrook as the first member of the Resident Teacher Program through the Center for Teaching Excellence. She found her place in the classroom as a middle school science teacher before taking on her current role as Director of Teaching & Learning and Director of the CTE.
